A new featurette for the movie, M3GAN 2023, sheds further light on the experience.
The first trailer for the upcoming Blumhouse Productions horror film M3GAN has taken social media by storm. The unnerving imagery of a life-size doll coming to life and performing various jobs has lingered in spectators’ minds. James Wan, who worked on The Conjuring’s Annabelle to create an iconic killer doll, is a producer on the new movie, but whereas the evil in that toy was supernatural in origin, M3GAN offers a different kind of fear. The movie M3GAN premieres on January 6, 2023.
She is not merely a toy. She belongs to the family. A brand-new face in fear has emerged from the most creative minds in the horror genre, including Blumhouse, the studio behind The Invisible Man and The Black Phone, and James Wan, the director of the Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring series.
The artificial intelligence marvel M3GAN is a lifelike doll that has been designed to be both a parent’s and child’s best friend. As she transforms into a companion and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is attached to, M3GAN can listen, watch, and learn thanks to her creator, clever toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams).
Gemma is uncertain and unprepared to be a mom when she unexpectedly inherits her 8-year-old orphaned niece Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House). Gemma makes the unthinkable choice to link her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an effort to solve both challenges while under extreme pressure at work.
Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) wrote the screenplay for M3GAN, which Jason Blum and James Wan produced. Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), an accomplished director, is the film’s director of record.
In addition, Jen Van Epps from Cowboy Bebop, Brian Jordan Alvarez from Will & Grace, Lori Dungey from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Extended Edition, and Stephane Garneau-Monten appear in the movie (Straight Forward).
A Divide/Conquer-affiliated Atomic Monster production is presented by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse. Allison Williams, Mark Katchur, Ryan Turek, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath are the movie’s executive producers.
The movie M3GAN premieres on January 6, 2023.
