What is NATO? Countries supporting Ukraine & Russia in War 2022

NATO stands for  "North Atlantic Treaty Organization" it was formed in the year 1949 by 12 member countries.

NATO was formed after World War 2  by the European countries and the US  and to prevent attacks from the USSR

NATO presently is an association of 30 countries, and its founding members are US, UK, Canada, France etc.

NATO is headed by a secretary general, who holds office for 4 years. Presently the head is former Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg

NATO's logo was launched in the year 1953, it has white and blue compass on a dark blue background, signifying members to keep on the path of peace.

NATO involves military and political alliance amongst the member nations. An attack against one member nation is treated as an attack against all the NATO countries.

The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia is because Ukraine wanted to be a part of NATO after disintegration of USSR in 1991.

However Russia wants Ukraine to not join the NATO forces, because it could mean increased European influence in the Russian region.

Many NATO countries have come in the support of Ukraine and are providing weapons to fight the war. But the military support is not being provided because of fear of World war 3 and Ukraine is not a NATO member.

NATO nations like Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxemburg, Norway, Portugal, UK and United states, Japan,  South Korea & Australia are supporting Ukraine.

Countries supporting Russia are Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, China, Cuba, Venezuela, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan
